Sooo...then there's Freedom Pizza

So if you recall my post about Basiligo. then you know I am on a journey to living a healthier life and embracing the glory of a "gluten free" lifestyle. I think many people are concerned or have a fear of the unknown, when it comes to making changes- and many times necessary changes to their diets. Words like organic, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, paleo, keto- all buzz-words are many times associated with bland, but with the evolution of the health food industry, that is just not the case.

You can eat healthy and not compromise flavor, taste or texture in some of the favorite foods you crave. And while I still miss my beloved Tawa Bakery, I am continually coming across hidden gems that give me all the sustenance I need on this gluten free journey. Take Freedom Pizza for instance. A few weeks ago, I was craving pizza, but I didn't want the guilt or the gut issues that come along with chowing down on the usual greasy pizza chains. So I hit up my good friend- Miss Google of course, and she guided me to the place for the perfect gluten free pizza. Not only can you order through Zomato, but they also have their own app- Freedom Pizza , which allows you to personalize your order and select from several sizes- including a personal/small and gives you all types of discounts and loyal customer treats.

You can also customize your own. That night I tried the Saatchi and added jalapenos- well cause I love spicy food. It comes with buffalo red sauce, buffalo chicken, pimento chili, onion, cream cheese, cheddar cheese and mozzarella and it was stellar. I even ate the last two pieces for breakfast the next morning- #judgeme. Don't act like you never had breakfast pizza- especially in elementary school. So moving on to last night- I was craving pizza again. Disclaimer, I am currently on day 4 of my fast in observance of Ramadan. While I am not Muslim, I thought it was an opportunity to immerse myself into the local culture and experience what they live and how they feel. On the vanity side- I figured it couldn't hurt since I also want to lose a few extra pounds before my birthday on June 26th.

Anyhow, at the breaking of the fast which is 7pm daily, I decided I didn't want to move from the comfort of my bed to make anything, so I decided on Freedom Pizza. While looking on the site- I took notice of the "Freegan" Pizza. This is a featured specialty pizza that is completely vegan and so I thought why not give it a try. And its not your typical veggie pizza as its made with vegan cheese. Let me tell you it was amazing. Flavorful, firm with the gluten free crust, saucy and seasoned, but the caramelized onions took center stage as the star of this dinner show. The sweetness of the onions broke up the savory sizzle of the bell peppers, onions, tomatoes and cilantro AND it already came with jalapenos, so another win for me. I would definitely order this piece of divinity again.

For dessert, I was in the mood for chocolate- but wanting to still remain consistent in only eating gluten free treats. So I also ordered a gluten free brownie by Skinny Genie and this brownie was BOMB. I mean BOMMMMMB. It was bursting with moisture and just the right of dark chocolate sweetness. It even came in packaging with cute little messages that screamed "get in my belly". I devoured that without leaving one little brownie bite behind, but I don't know about the "sharing with friends" bit though. Nah- you gotta get your own.

Ok ok so confession- I wasn't sure how I was gonna feel about the brownie, so I ordered a back-up dessert. I'll admit that sweets are my weakness and I just couldn't bring myself to be disappointed when it came to dessert, so I also ordered a Hokey Pokey cup. But the brownie ended up being just fine, so I saved the cup for a later date- like TODAY. And it was magical. I mean so magical- that it made me want to Hokey Pokey. I mean that's what it's all about? It had crunch and crisp and sweet and salt and just made me feel good all over. Honeycomb, flourless sponge cubes, chocolate creme, homemade dulce de leche, milk chocolate whipped ganache and homemade fudge cubes come together to make this sweet treat.

So its official- when I'm feeling like pizza or wings or wraps or salads or breadsticks because they have those too. Freedom Pizza will certainly do. They have locations in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai and even have fast delivery throughout Ramadan with specials like date and walnut cookies when you're just about ready to break your fast for evening. It's now 7pm so what new food will break my fast? Any suggestions in the Abu Dhabi area?

Ramadan Kareem Everyone,

XOXO,

Devereaux aka "Dare I say I fancy Freedom Pizza again for tonight"
